I am a 35-year old mother to an almost-4-year old boy and a 3 week old girl. I had a very rare epidural hematoma after the birth of my daughter which has left me paraplegic. I am living at roper rehab for another two or so weeks and then will move home and start out-patient therapy at roper downtown. I will definitely need my wheelchair when i return home, although they expect me to have some form of ambulation within a year or year and half (possibly wtih braces or assistive devices). it is unclear when or whether i can drive again with my feet, so i could learn how to drive with hand controls, but not immediately. my husband is using fmla to help stay home with the children for now, but he will need to return to work soon (early fall) and we will need help at home. we don't know what kind of progress i will make or how quickly, so i cannot be at home alone with the children and i may not be able to drive myself to therapy, so we may need someone to drive me to therapy and stay with the baby (or both kids if my son's morning preschool isn't in session that day for some reason) while i'm at therapy. so it isn't really taking care of me, but it isn't exactly childcare. is this at all something you would do?
